Kenran's Chickens
My chicken list and egg diary.
Welcome!
Intro
My chicken journey began with a neighborhood nuisance: abandoned chickens. Luckily, my new house had the necessary equipment on the property, so I decided to step up and turn the situation into a fun project! My husband and I quickly prepared a run and started catching the strays. For someone who had considered raising chickens for a while, this was a welcome opportunity!
The most rewarding aspects of raising chickens are the wonderful fresh eggs and the meditative experience of watching the flock, which I love to let free-range when they're not in their secure run. Keeping them does require commitment; you'll have to manage regular chores like cleaning up and performing checks even when the weather is wet or cold. Navigating the reality of occasional loss is simply part of the stewardship, but the daily joys and the constant supply of eggs make the effort worthwhile.

All of my chickens are from my gracious neighbor! ๐
If you have or know someone with chickens, please share~ ๐

I also have one rooster, but I keep him separated from the hens. I have no idea what breed he his because he looks, to me, like a typical rooster for most breeds. His name is Lt. Dan--"because he don't got no eggs!"

Aside from the chicks, Elenore, and Nikola, these chickens came from abandoned/going feral. Elenore and Nikola are from a lady who had too many and was thinning her flock. The chicks are because my neighbor is amazing~<3
Chicken ID name | breed of chicken | coloration | egg color
Elizabeth | Easter Egger? | white and black | green to blue green
Rosy | Easter Egger? | red/pinkish and black | I assume green
Penny | Easter Egger? | copper orange and black | I assume green
I'm getting some olive-green eggs that are probably from Elizabeth and/or Rosy.
Blue ...
Violet...
Beatrice | Welsummer probably...
Honey...
I'm getting pink to cream eggs from, I believe, the previously mentioned four.
Beatrice has bigger spurs than Dan. I think she is full Welsummer and at least Blue and Violet are Welsummer x Easter Egger cross.
Elenore | Rode Island Red | red | light orange
Nikola | Brown Leghorn? | dark brown and gold | dark tan
